Oklahoma City Fire Department

The Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD) protects the City of Oklahoma City — approximately 700,000 residents across roughly 620 square miles, making it one of the largest US cities by land area. The department fields about 1,000 uniformed members from around 38 fire stations and provides structural and wildland fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, swiftwater rescue, and aircraft rescue and firefighting at Will Rogers World Airport. Tornado response and large-scale storm-damage operations are a defining feature of the operational picture for Oklahoma City and the surrounding region. Primary 911 ambulance transport in Oklahoma County is provided by EMSA (a separate public trust); OKCFD provides EMT-level medical first response from engines. Oklahoma City also hosts Oklahoma Task Force 1, a federal Urban Search and Rescue team that draws heavily on OKCFD personnel. Firefighter recruitment is administered by the City of Oklahoma City Personnel Department. The process typically includes an online application, written examination, the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), medical and psychological evaluation, polygraph and background investigation, and an oral interview. Successful candidates attend the OKCFD Training Center for a recruit course covering structural and wildland firefighting, EMT certification, and technical rescue. Confirm current openings on the official portal; Bluewatch refers candidates there.
