How Bluewatch handles your data.

Who we are

Bluewatch is operated by a single individual — a serving UK firefighter — running an independent recruitment aggregator at bluewatch.app. We are the data controller for any personal data you give us. Contact: hello@bluewatch.app.

What we collect

When you sign up for email alerts, we store:

• Your email address (required)
• A UK postcode, if you give us one (optional — used to filter roles by location)
• Your role and frequency preferences (optional — defaults to weekly digest of all roles)
• The date you subscribed and confirmed
• The page on the site you signed up from (for our own diagnostics)

We don't collect names, phone numbers, dates of birth, employment history, or anything else. We don't use cookies or third-party analytics, and we don't run trackers.

Why we collect it

Solely to send you the alert emails you signed up for. The lawful basis is your consent, given when you subscribe and click the confirmation link in the email we send. You can withdraw it at any time by clicking Unsubscribe on any alert email.

Who processes it on our behalf

We use two services to run the site:

• Supabase (Postgres database) — hosted in the EU (London, eu-west-2). Stores your subscription record.
• Resend (email delivery) — hosted in the EU (Ireland, eu-west-1). Sends the alert emails.

Both are GDPR-aligned processors. We do not share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, request path) for short retention periods as part of normal hosting; we don't use those for marketing or profiling.

How long we keep it

We keep your subscription record for as long as you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we mark the record as inactive and stop sending emails immediately, and we delete the row within 90 days. We keep a minimal log of alert emails we sent you (subject line + date + outcome) for up to 12 months, so we can answer questions like “why didn't I get the email about role X?”. After that, those logs are deleted.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, and to ask us to stop processing it or hand a copy to another service. To exercise any of these, email hello@bluewatch.appfrom the address you subscribed with — we'll respond within a month, usually faster.

If you think we've handled your data badly, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Children

Some firefighter routes (cadets, apprenticeships) are open to under-18s. Bluewatch surfaces those listings, but we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you're under 16 and would like to subscribe, please ask a parent or guardian to do it on your behalf.

Changes to this notice

If we change anything material, we'll update the “last updated” date at the top and, if the change affects how we use existing subscribers' data, we'll send a heads-up email before the change takes effect.
