The one-paragraph version
Bluewatch (bluewatch.app) is an independent firefighter recruitment directory built and edited by a serving UK firefighter. It scrapes fire-service and fire-department websites directly and surfaces every open recruitment opportunity in one place. Originally launched as a UK-first platform, Bluewatch pivoted on 13 May 2026 to a global directory covering English-speaking markets (UK, US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand). Free to use, no accounts, no fees; every link goes to the service's own application page.
Quote-ready numbers
Live counts from the production database. Refreshed hourly.
UK coverage is comprehensive — 72 of the 73 local-authority fire and rescue services are scraped daily, with the rest of the UK directory entries covering airport ARFF, defence, industrial, private-contractor and overseas-transfer employers. US expansion is in progress toward a top-100 municipal fire-department target. Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand follow in the coming months.
Founder & editor
The Bluewatch Editor — Serving UK firefighter.
Bluewatch is run by a serving UK firefighter who has been through the recruitment process for both wholetime and on-call roles. The platform is anonymised at launch; bylines will become attributable as the project matures. For interviews, background quotes on the UK recruitment process, on-call staffing pressures, or the case for a global firefighter directory, get in touch via hello@bluewatch.app — happy to provide on-the-record quotes attributed to “the editor of Bluewatch” or background context on deeper analysis.
Suggested angles
- On-call recruitment is a station-level problem. A fire service can be recruiting hard at one station while closed at another ten miles away. Bluewatch is one of the few sources that tracks recruitment at the station level rather than the service level.
- Fragmentation is the real barrier. UK candidates face ~50 separate websites with vacancy pages buried three menus deep. US candidates face the same problem at far greater scale — over 27,000 fire departments nationally.
- Built by an operational firefighter, not a recruitment business.Bluewatch isn't affiliated with any service or union and nobody pays to be listed.
- UK → global pivot, 13 May 2026. The platform is rebuilding its content programme around a multi-country directory model rather than a single-market platform.

Fact-check & corrections
We'd rather be corrected than confidently wrong. If a stat on this page conflicts with what you're seeing elsewhere, the live counts in our directory are the source of truth — but please tell us what you're seeing and we'll investigate.
