Anaheim Fire & Rescue

Anaheim Fire & Rescue (AF&R) protects the City of Anaheim — approximately 345,000 residents across roughly 50 square miles in northern Orange County, California, including the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim Stadium, the Honda Center, and the Anaheim Convention Center. The tourism and large-public-assembly venue exposure substantially shapes the department's operational picture; daily visitor populations routinely exceed permanent residents. AF&R fields about 250 uniformed members from 11 fire stations and provides structural fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical service with paramedic transport (AF&R operates its own ambulance service rather than contracting it out, unusual among Orange County cities), technical rescue, and hazardous materials response. Wildland-urban interface exposure on Anaheim Hills' eastern edge requires routine wildland response capability. Firefighter recruitment runs through the City of Anaheim Human Resources Department under California civil service rules; the AF&R Recruit Academy is a 10-week programme. The process typically includes an online application, written examination, the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), oral interview, medical and psychological evaluation, polygraph and background investigation. Trainees are appointed to the sworn Firefighter I classification upon academy completion. Bluewatch is a directory and refers candidates to the City of Anaheim portal.
