Fremont Fire Department

About FFD

The Fremont Fire Department (FFD) protects the City of Fremont — approximately 230,000 residents across roughly 85 square miles in Alameda County, California, in the southeastern San Francisco Bay Area and a key city of the broader Silicon Valley industrial corridor. The combination of substantial high-tech and electric-vehicle manufacturing (Tesla's Fremont factory is the city's defining industrial site), Bay Area marine and tidal flat exposure (Coyote Hills, Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge), Mission Peak wildland-urban interface on the eastern edge, and dense suburban residential substantially shapes the operational picture. FFD fields about 175 uniformed members from 11 fire stations and operates an all-hazards model: structural fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical first response (Falck Mobile Health provides primary 911 ambulance transport under contract with Alameda County; FFD engines arrive first-on-scene at the paramedic level), technical rescue, hazardous materials response (a substantial capability given the high-tech and EV-manufacturing risk), water rescue at the Bay edge, and wildland firefighting on the Mission Peak / Sunol foothills. Firefighter recruitment is administered by the City of Fremont Human Resources Department under California civil service rules. The process includes a written examination, CPAT, oral interview, and full medical and background screening. Bluewatch refers candidates to the official portal.
