About HFR
Hialeah Fire Rescue (HFR) protects the City of Hialeah — approximately 220,000 residents across roughly 20 square miles in Miami-Dade County, Florida, one of the most densely populated cities in the southeastern United States and a city with one of the highest Cuban-American populations of any US municipality. The combination of a dense urban core, substantial industrial and warehouse corridor along the Miami River and around Opa-locka Executive Airport, and significant elderly resident population substantially shapes the operational picture, with a heavy emergency medical service workload. HFR fields about 285 uniformed members from 8 fire stations and operates an all-hazards model: structural fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical service (HFR provides primary 911 ambulance transport within the city), technical rescue, hazardous materials response, and arson investigation. Hurricane response and tropical-storm operations are routine. Firefighter recruitment is administered by the City of Hialeah Human Resources Department. The process typically includes a written examination, CPAT, oral interview, medical and psychological evaluation, and background investigation. Florida State EMT or Paramedic certification is required, and bilingual (English/Spanish) ability is an operational advantage. Bluewatch refers candidates to the official portal.
