Colorado Springs Fire Department

About CSFD

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) protects the City of Colorado Springs — approximately 490,000 residents across roughly 195 square miles in El Paso County, at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountain Front Range. The high-altitude (6,000+ ft), semi-arid, wildland-urban interface setting alongside the city's proximity to the United States Air Force Academy, NORAD/Cheyenne Mountain, and Fort Carson substantially shape the operational picture. CSFD fields about 480 uniformed members from around 22 fire stations and operates an all-hazards model: structural fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical first response (American Medical Response provides 911 ambulance transport under contract; CSFD engines arrive with paramedic-level care), technical rescue, hazardous materials response, and a substantial wildland firefighting capability — the 2012 Waldo Canyon and 2013 Black Forest fires made wildfire response a defining feature of the department's identity. Firefighter recruitment is administered by the City of Colorado Springs Human Resources Department. The process typically includes an online application, the National Testing Network FireTEAM written examination, the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), oral interview, polygraph, medical and psychological evaluation, and background investigation. Colorado EMT-Basic certification is a prerequisite to hire. Bluewatch refers candidates to the official portal for current openings.
